Pasties
Ingredients:
Filling
1 lb sirloin cut into thin strips
2 C potatoes, sliced thin
1 C grated carrot
1/3 C chopped onion
salt and pepper
Crust
2 1/2 C flour
1/2 C ground suet
1/2 C shortening
1/3 C cold water
1/2 t. salt
6 t. butter
1/2 C milk for brushing
Notes:
Cut suet and shortening into flour and salt. Gradually mix water. Shape into a ball and divide evenly into six sections. Roll each into an 8" circle. Place 1/6 of the filling on 1/2 of one circle. Place a teaspoon of butter on top of the filling. Fold over and seal edges. Assemble remaining pasties. Brush each pastie top with milk. Bake in a hot 425° oven for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 375° for 35 minutes longer.
